Reiki is one of the oldest and best known systems of hands-on energy healing … although I personally work hands off too. It really just depends on who I am treating at the time as I like whomever I’m working with to feel comfortable.
The system was rooted in Tendai Buddhism (a form of mystical Buddhism) that provided spiritual teachings and Shintoism that contributed methods of controlling and working with the energies. The name Reiki is Japanese in origin and is loosely translated to mean “Rei – Universal or Godforce”, “Ki” – (like Chi, Prana, Mana) life force energy. It is pronounced Ray Key and was founded in in the 1920’s by Mikao Usui.
The system of Usui Reiki is a very simple but powerful healing technique that is easily given by a qualified practitioner and can be received by anyone and as an energy can also be used on animals and plants too. In fact, daft as it may sound, I have heard of it being used to get a car battery going in the past too!
It is a method of self development that can change peoples’ lives. It allows us to know ourselves on a deeper level and to heal ourselves and others by awakening our natural intuitive ability. Once we are aware of this energy which is awakened inside us by the attunement process, which attunes our physical and estheric body to a higher vibrational frequency, we can direct it with our intention for our own development, healing and highest good, and for helping others by becoming a clear channel for the energy to flow through.
Once this energy channel has been opened, this energy will be available to you for the rest of your life. The energy is an intelligent energy and knows exactly where it is required to flow in the body.
Reiki is taught at 3 levels…
I underwent my first level (first degree reiki) back in October 2010 and completed my second level (second degree reiki) in May 2011. I am therefore qualified to practice reiki although these days I tend to use it on a personal level and recommend contacting Esther Felder at www.yanatherapies.co.uk
As an additional note, it is important to remain in good health as a reiki practitioner and it’s something I strive for at all times. The sub-conscious only understands positives, so at the first hint of a sniffle I always state to myself “I am healthy, I am healthy” and as a rule of thumb it works for me…
